FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHERE ARE THE HUNTING LEASES LOCATED?
Our hunting properties are located in the north Mississippi Delta region near Sledge, MS (Quitman and Panola counties).
WHAT KIND OF WATERFOWL CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE DURING A HUNT?
You will be hunting along a popular waterfowl migration route (Mississippi Flyway) and can expect to see a wide variety of ducks: mallard, pintail, teal, wood duck, gadwall, wigeon, redhead, merganser, shoveler, and more. We cater primarily to duck hunters, but don't be surprised if you add a few snow geese, specklebellies, and the occasional honker to your bag. That’s part of the fun in hunting the Mississippi Delta: it’s like a box of chocolates.
WHAT TYPES OF HUNTING AREAS ARE LEASED?
All of our hunting leases are flooded fields with waste grain (rice, corn, soybeans, etc.). The size of the field varies per lease and averages 30-40 acres. We pump water on the leased fields after harvesting crops. Water levels will be adequate for decoy mobility. Rice fields are rolled in the hunting area surrounding the blind.
DO YOU OFFER GUIDE SERVICES?
No, but we will gladly show you the field and blind location. The hunting part will be left up to you.
WHAT DATES CAN WE HUNT?
You can hunt on your leased field during the main duck season only. Spring teal and goose conservation seasons are not included in the lease agreement. Please contact us in advance if you need to access your hunting area prior to opening day (brush the blind, set out decoys, etc.). Early access to your lease will depend on our harvest schedule, so please call ahead.
HOW BIG ARE THE BLINDS?
Most of our fields have steel ground blinds, but we also have a few pit blinds (these sell out quickly). Our blinds easily accommodate 4 to 5 hunters per blind. You are responsible for brushing the blinds to your liking, but please do not alter their physical structure or attempt to move them. If you encounter any major structural issues, please contact us for repairs.
DO WE NEED A BOAT?
You do not need a boat. Our properties are strictly flooded fields that are easily accessible by ATV.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO WE NEED?
We do not provide gear, so bring everything you need to hunt (ATV, waders, guns, decoys, calls, etc.).
DO YOU PROVIDE LODGING, MEALS, OR GEAR STORAGE?
We only provide the hunting spot. Check out Batesville, MS for hotel and food options (30-minute drive from the hunting area). Click the "Hotels & Food" tab at the top of the page for additional info.
IS THERE A MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE AFTER A BAD SEASON?
No. Our fields have produced excellent waterfowl numbers through the years and we are happy to provide the opportunity for exciting duck hunts. However, we have no control over nature and cannot guarantee a plentiful supply of birds on every hunt. Keep in mind that uncontrollable factors like weather, migration patterns, and surrounding hunting pressure can affect the quality of a hunt on any given day. For this reason, we do not refund any money for low waterfowl numbers.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LIABILITY ARISING FROM HUNTING ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED ON THE LEASED PROPERTIES?
The terms of the lease agreement indemnify Mid-South Duck Holes and landowners from any liability that arises from hunting. It further provides that each lessee will ensure that members of their group have adequate liability insurance coverage for situations that could arise. Mid-South Duck Holes does not arrange for any insurance coverage for the lessees or their guests. It is important to read the lease agreement in its entirety and understand all of its provisions.
ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS OR RULES WHEN HUNTING?
Yes. Hunt only on your leased field. Some of our fields are adjacent to property not owned by us, so using their property in any fashion is considered trespassing and punishable by law. Trucks and SUVs are not allowed on the fields or turnrows (ATVs only). Please treat the property with respect, obey all hunting laws, and be safe out there.
